100 mg Iron Sucrose | Doctor-Prescribed | Clinically Monitored
IV Iron Therapy cannot be booked directly. New patients must first complete the MDC Private Iron Assessment (£140), which includes an Iron Profile, Full Blood Count (FBC), clinical assessment questionnaire and doctor-led review.
IV Iron Therapy delivers iron directly into the bloodstream through a cannula placed into a vein. It may be considered when iron deficiency has been confirmed and an MDC doctor determines that intravenous iron replacement is clinically appropriate after reviewing the patient’s blood results, assessment questionnaire, symptoms and medical history.
At Marylebone Diagnostic Centre, we currently provide IV Iron Therapy using 100 mg Iron Sucrose. The treatment is available only following a doctor-led Iron Assessment and prescription.
Symptoms such as fatigue, poor concentration, dizziness, hair loss, restless legs and reduced exercise tolerance can be associated with iron deficiency, but they may also have other causes. For this reason, MDC does not offer IV iron on symptoms alone.
The Private Iron Assessment provides the clinical information our doctor needs before deciding whether IV iron is appropriate. It includes:
Depending on the findings, the doctor may recommend no treatment, dietary or lifestyle measures, oral iron, further investigation, GP or specialist referral, or IV Iron Therapy where clinically appropriate.
IV iron is not suitable for everyone. It may be considered in selected patients after clinical review, for example where iron deficiency is confirmed and intravenous replacement is considered appropriate by the prescribing doctor. The decision also takes account of previous oral iron treatment, possible causes of deficiency, relevant medical history, allergies, contraindications and current clinical status.
| Medicine | Iron Sucrose 100 mg |
| Price | £299 per treatment session |
| Administration | Intravenous infusion diluted in 100ml 0.9% Sodium Chloride |
| Booking | Manual booking only after doctor recommendation |
| Monitoring | Before, during and after treatment as clinically required |
The £299 price applies to one treatment session containing 100 mg Iron Sucrose. This is not the price of a single high-dose 500 mg or 1,000 mg iron infusion.
The number of 100 mg sessions required is determined individually by the prescribing doctor. Additional sessions, where prescribed, are charged separately unless included in a written treatment package. The number of sessions is not predetermined by booking an Iron Assessment or by visiting this page.
Iron Sucrose is administered through a cannula placed into a vein as an intravenous infusion diluted in 0.9% Sodium Chloride. Treatment is prepared and administered by an appropriately trained healthcare professional in accordance with the doctor’s prescription, current product information and MDC clinical policy.
Patients are monitored before, during and after treatment as clinically required. The cannula site is also checked during the treatment, and patients are asked to report any pain, burning, swelling or leakage immediately.
There is no standard number of IV iron sessions for every patient. The prescribing doctor determines the treatment course individually after reviewing your Iron Assessment, blood results, medical history and clinical circumstances. Some patients may require several 100 mg sessions, while others may not require IV iron at all.
Patients who complete a doctor-prescribed course of four or more IV Iron Therapy sessions will receive one complimentary Post-Treatment Iron Review. This includes a repeat Iron Profile, Full Blood Count (FBC) and doctor review of the results.
The doctor will determine the appropriate timing of the repeat blood tests after the final treatment. The review is used to assess the response to treatment and determine whether further investigation, monitoring or treatment is required. Additional IV iron is never automatic.
IV iron is a prescription-only medical treatment and is not suitable for everyone. The potential benefits and risks are reviewed before treatment, and separate informed consent is required before the first IV iron session.
Patients should tell the clinical team immediately if they experience pain, swelling, burning, leakage, breathing difficulty, rash, facial swelling, dizziness or any other concerning symptoms during treatment.
The first step is the MDC Private Iron Assessment.
