HbA1c (Glycosylated Haemoglobin)
The HbA1c (Glycosylated Haemoglobin) blood test measures the average level of glucose in your blood over the previous two to three months. It does this by assessing how much glucose has attached to haemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein inside red blood cells. Because red blood cells live for around 120 days, HbA1c provides a longer-term picture of blood sugar control rather than a single snapshot. HbA1c testing is widely used to screen for diabetes, help diagnose diabetes and prediabetes, and monitor how well blood glucose is being controlled in people with known diabetes.
